The Beach Knows Who I AM

Around 10 PM last night, September 1, 2012, our dear friend Randy was freed from the stranglehold of his earthly affliction. His passing, unlike the struggles of the past few weeks, was a peaceful transition from this world to the next. Instead of languishing in a hospital bed under a ventilator, Randy faced death on his own terms within sight of the beaches he loved so much. Though he could not get out in the surf and sand that one last time, he told Debbie that “the beach knows who I am” as he spent much of his final two days watching the boats and beachgoers enjoy the waters he loved to frequent.
He left this life surrounded by many friends and family, and family members who were not on the trip with us were able to speak with him over the phone during his final minutes here on Earth. Though he was not able to talk back to them, we could see him respond as each person said their goodbyes. While his earthly body had failed him, Randy’s mind never did. He was alert, and keenly aware of everything going on around him. Always willing to lend a hand, he was still helping us overcome generator issues leading up to the storm and giving Debbie directions to the beach on the way over.
Randy’s impact in this world could be easily seen over the last few months of his life. The incredible support of friends and family is a direct reflection of the hard-working, drop everything to help out someone persona that Randy exhibited throughout his shortened time with us. Be assured that he truly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with you at these events and was eternally grateful for your efforts. Our challenge now is to be sure that we continue to support his wife and three beautiful children just as he would have done for us.
Mourning the loss of our dear friend while rejoicing in the fact the he finally has his well-deserved restful sleep as he awaits the coming of a new day in heaven,

Errol

  11. I had the opportunity to meet Randy in the August of 2006, I had been visiting a mutual friend Eric Dupree and we all went riding together. Although I only met him one time for a couple of days I never forgot about him. He left a lasting impression with me. I would call Eric and always ask, Hows Randy? Tell him I said hello etc…. Unfortunately over summer I heard about his diagnosis and the tell Randy I said hello was replaced with “How is Randy doing, any changes?” Im glad that I got to meet Randy, and I will never forget him… My prayers are with you Debbie and the children….
